Paul is OP, let that sink in for a min.
When Paul punches you, you feel it. When he kicks you, you feel it. He does anything, you feel it.
As someone rightly said, Paul doesn’t need juggles those are just a plus for him.
In this post, we’re gonna talk about some strings/ moves that online Paul’s love to do and we hate.
1. QCB 3 Strings
Paul has 2 options from this move, first of all, QCB 3 itself is a barely see-able crushing low.
The follow-up is 2 1, a mid-high string.
and 2 3, a mid-low string.
To beat both options, you need to low parry after blocking the second hit. This way you can duck the high and punish and low parry if he goes for a low.
Note: If you get hit by the 2nd hit, the 1 becomes guaranteed.
2. 3,2 String
I’ve come across people who do this 3 to 4 times in a match and rightfully so as the string is fast, safe and the online lag makes it hard to take your turn back.
But like most safe strings the second hit is a high you need to duck and punish.
3. Iron Mountain- D 1+2
An infamous move of Paul’s, it goes unpunished a lot of the time because people this it is safe because of the pushback.
People mostly beginner Paul’s love to do it online as they don’t know the concept of frame data and punishment. Be on the lookout for it as they most likely do it after a 1,2 jab to Iron Mountain or a grab.
But like most shoulders in Tekken, when blocked it becomes launch punishable. Try doing a Hop kick or df 2 next time some tries it on you, if you feel there is lag than I would recommend doing your best knockdown punish to take the momentum away.
4. Df1 to b 4 – Noted among green ranks.
From my experience, once Paul players go past mid-green to yellow ranks. They will incorporate the sway motion into their game, the sway can be accessed by doing a df1 and holding back. This movement itself can crush your jabs, so don’t go pressing buttons once u get hit by a df1.
The 4 out of the back way is high and can launch on counter hit, it becomes one of the best tools in their arsenal if you combine the crushing properties of the sway and this move.
There are high chances that you will come across someone who is abusing this move on your way in ranking up. Practice ducking the kick and get your punish.
5. FF 4
A combo extender for Paul, but they have some of the best properties in the game. It low crushes as he jumps in the animation and is hard to interrupt up close online. Paul also gets plus frames if you block the move, beware!
The key here is lateral movement, try to incorporate side steps into your game and do whiff punish. If he is far enough to try doing a back dash so he just lands in front of you for launching.
Keynote here is that if you block the move the most likely follow up is WS 3,2 for beginner to green rank players. Try ducking the 2 like in the QCB 3,2,1 string and punish.
